PROJECT STORY
Responding to the extreme slope of our site, we strove to design a structure that took flight from the landscape. The bed structure was designed to efficiently sleep our six person team and our cantilever system was created by connecting a metal A-frame with two steel plates that were the base of four cables attached to the bed system and four cables that were earth-screwed into the hill above. The tension created in the cables was able to hold our weight elegantly, and created a flat surface for us to sleep on amid the slope. The grid shell was not only a beautiful feature of our structure but it also, with the added fabric, acted as a wind shield for the high winds coming through the small canyon.
